Stock Up on Books for Summer Reading at the Book Fair This Week

Book Fair this week in the Hazel Wolf Library! This year we are partnering with Secret Garden Books in Ballard for our fair.  Parents can go to the Secret Garden website at:  https://www.secretgardenbooks.com/hazel-wolf-k-8-book-fair?couponHW

You can shop online or just see what will be available at the Library.  Instructions are available on the landing page of the website.  The virtual Book Fair where families can shop and purchase books through the Secret Garden website runs simultaneously.  If families order books through the site, they will be delivered to school for students to bring home and the Hazel Wolf Library still receives a portion of the sales!

Students can shop at the Book Fair before school, during lunch recess and after school.  Classes will also be able to browse during their regular library times.  Dr. V will provide students with forms so they can create wish lists and families can budget and send appropriate funds with students (or shop together after school every day and until 6pm on Wednesday).

Families can also purchase books from teacher wish lists for their classrooms!  Dr. V will be accepting credit cards, checks and cash.  A portion of all proceeds will go directly to the Hazel Wolf Library Fund to help build our collection 😊

Prepare to Testify at School Board Meeting for Bell Change and Bussing Issue

Join us for a Q&A on how to testify at the Seattle School Board meeting (over the phone or in person). Q&A held on Sunday, May 15th at 1PM. We will talk about how to sign up, what to expect and give you ideas for talking points for the three tier school bell change/First Student busing. You can use your personal stories along with data to tell the district school board how these changes would affect you and others throughout the district. Doing that makes it’s harder to ignore and they are more likely listen. Please register in advance for the Q&A to be hosted by Tracy Buckingham and Rebecca Vaux. The next school board meeting is on Wednesday, May 18th at 4:15pm-8:30pm (you can leave as soon as your done testifying if you want). With registration for testimony open on Monday, May 16th at 8am through Tuesday, May 17th at 12 (noon). There may be spots available for walk-in testimony if there is time available. We know that they are pausing to get community feedback, so this is the time to let them know how it impacts you and the whole district. You are welcome to attend this meeting is you have a child in any SPS school.
