Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Hazel Wolf K-8!
Recently, I read a research report prepared by the Global Family Research Project in 2018 that included this quote:
“Research consistently confirms that family engagement is one of the most powerful predictors of children’s development, educational attainment, and success in school and life.”
This resonated for me as a member of the Hazel Wolf K-8 school community. Our children are better off when they get the best of everyone who shows up in their day to day lives – their families, educators, school staff, and volunteers – we all play a crucial role in their development. It’s also the mission of the Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA, which exists to facilitate opportunities for family involvement in the school community.
Our programs and events are also designed to enhance the learning experience for every child – in a way that fosters whole child well-being and success. In past years, we have done this by:
- Providing stipends to teachers and specialists for classroom supplies and learning aids
- Hosting school community events such as the Multicultural Potluck and Pancakes & PJs
- Partnering with and providing funding for the Racial Equity Committee
- Offering parent education opportunities through speakers, movie showings, & discussion
- Supporting families with financial aid, food/coat drives, and the backpack program
- Offsetting costs of student enrichment like tutoring, field trips & overnight camping trips
This year, we will continue to keep the needs of our students front and center as a priority, while also emphasizing efforts around improving racial equity and inclusion for everyone in our school community. If you would like to hear more about our priorities for the 2019-2020 school year, please join us for the September General Session meeting on September 26 from 6:30-8:00pm in the cafetorium. This meeting, like all PTSA activities and events, is open to the entire school community and I’d love to see you there.
And if you feel like I do, that every member of this school community plays a crucial role for our children’s development, join the PTSA in working to make a difference. You can join the Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA online by going to https://hazelwolfk8.org/join, or complete the membership form sent home in the PTSA Welcome Packet. Financial assistance is also available to offset all or part of the membership fee – please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
