❄️December PTSA Updates and Events

December starts tomorrow, and we have another full month of opportunities to support the school and build community!

Your Donations in Action

Did you know the 2024-2025 Resource Survey showed how much our community values outdoor education? When Washington State couldn’t fund the Outdoor Learning Grant due to budget challenges, affecting many schools, the Hazel Wolf PTSA Board voted to fill the gap so our 5th and 8th graders can go on the much-loved overnight trips.

April is Autism Awareness Month and we’re delighted to present this PTSA-sponsored educational event for caregivers and teachers of Hazel Wolf and area schools. Join us this Thursday, April 10th from 6-8pm in the Cafetorium for a presentation by the University of Washington Autism Center

UW Autism Center Logo

This event is free, but please RSVP via https://tinyurl.com/April10RSVP so the event organizers know how many people to expect.

Snacks will be provided, and K-5 students are welcomed to play games or color in our gym while their guardians enjoy the presentation. Please email Leslie Schuyler at luschuyler@gmail.com if you have questions.

Unlock Camp Fun: Discounts and Scholarships for Kids

Our Summer Camp Resource page is growing into a valuable hub of camp information. We’d like to highlight two resources that our families might find helpful: a Pedalheads discount and the Assistance League Summer Enrichment Scholarship.

Pedalheads Camp Discount

With Spring break around the corner, consider Pedalheads camps. Pedalheads Washington offers week-long Bike and Trail camps for kids ages 2-12, with full-day and private lesson options. Younger kids are introduced to biking, while kids 4+ work towards road riding.  Sign up using code HAZEL25 to get $25 off, and Pedalheads will also donate $25 back to Hazel Wolf! Promo valid for any program in Washington until June 22nd.

Summer Enrichment Scholarships

Want to go to summer camp? Apply for a Summer Enrichment Scholarship from Assistance League of Seattle to help you get there!

The Assistance League of Seattle awards scholarships of up to $500 (per student) to Seattle students currently in grades 4-11 for summer enrichment programs, such as overnight camps, music, science, art, sports, and more. They aim to reach the students who would benefit most from these scholarships. Last year, they helped send 83 Seattle students to summer programs and camps.

How does the application process work?

Students find a summer camp, program, or class they would like to attend. It is the responsibility of the student/family to apply to the program directly and tell the program they have applied for a scholarship from the Assistance League. Applications for our scholarships are evaluated as soon as possible after they are submitted, and recipients are then notified that they have been awarded a scholarship.

 When should applications be submitted?

The short and easy answer is: as soon as possible. Many camps and summer programs fill up quickly. Also note that we award the scholarships as the applications come in, but our final deadline for scholarship applications is May 2, 2025.

Email scholarships@alseattle.org with questions.
