Save the Dates: Back to School Events You Can’t Miss

While there’s still plenty of summer to enjoy, the new academic year is just around the corner—and some exciting events are already on the calendar. Save the date for these upcoming back-to-school events.

Transition to Kindergarten, Aug. 19-21

Transition to Kindergarten is August 19-21 from 9am-12pm each day. If you have an incoming Kindergartner, this is a great opportunity for them to meet the teachers, other Kindergartners and get familiar with the school. Learn more about Transition to Kindergarten.

Open House, Sept. 2

Open House is on Tuesday, September 2 from 4:00-5:00pm. Look out for an email from Dr. Brueder with more information.

First Day of School, Sept. 3 and Sept. 8

The first day of school for 1st-8th graders is Wednesday, September 3. Per the Seattle Public School website, September 3 is not an early release Wednesday. Kindergartners will start on Monday, September 8.

Goodwill Donation Drive, Sept. 6

On Saturday, September 6 from 9 AM to noon, the PTSA will have a Goodwill donation truck on site for the community to drop off items. This is a great chance to clean out your closets and support the school — for every full truck, Goodwill donates $300 to Hazel Wolf.

Welcome Picnic, Sept. 12

Join the PTSA on Friday, September 12 from 6pm-7:30pm for a Welcome Picnic to celebrate the start of the school year. Bring your own dinner to enjoy on school grounds and mingle with other HWK8 families. Don’t feel like cooking? You can grab a bite from the L’Italiano food trucks that will be onsite, or order out from the many nearby restaurants, including:
Chaiyo Thai, El Parche, Pizza Twist, Loxicha, Casa Del Mariachi, Nori Presto, Subway, Jebena, Enat, Ahadu, and Soprano’s Pizza.

Celebrating a Successful School Year

The 2024–2025 school year wraps up on June 18 — and what a year it’s been! It was full of events and activities that brought us together.

From the Welcome Picnic and Fall Festival to the “Ready. Set. GLOW” dance, Winter Clothing & Ski Swap, Mariners games, and multiple movie nights, the Hazel Wolf community truly showed up. Sustainability efforts like the Ridwell and TerraCycle drives helped families responsibly recycle hard-to-dispose-of items. We also hosted two impactful talks—one by Amy Lang on online safety and communication, and another focused on ADHD, neurodiversity, autism, and early childhood development. The PTSA raised $53,000 through the annual Blue Envelope Campaign, helping fund field trips, staff grants, and academic resources. And there was so much more!

None of this would have been possible without you. Thank you, parents, for making the 2024–2025 school year such a success!

Moving on Up!

Congratulations all the Kindergarteners, 5th graders, and 8th graders celebrating their promotions this week!
