Upcoming January PTSA Events

Happy New Year! We’re excited to start 2025 with a variety of events this January and hope you can join us for some of them!

ADHD Parent Support Group, Jan. 9

January’s meeting will be held on Thursday, January 9, 4-6pm in the Library. This group provides education, resources, and support to parents and guardians of students with ADHD. It meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month. If you have questions or would like more information before attending, please reach out to Leslie Schuyler at luschuyler@gmail.com.

General PTSA Meeting, Jan. 22 Featuring Amy Lang from Birds & Bees & Kids

Join us on Wednesday, January 22nd, from 6:30-8:30pm in the Cafetorium for updates from Principal Breuder and the PTSA. Amy Lang from Birds & Bees & Kids will be our guest speaker. She will share how to make sure you (and not the internet) are your child’s go-to birds and the bees expert! Parents will learn:

Simple, low-tech things you can do to keep kids safer online
How to talk about being safe online
Why monitoring and filtering are so important
How birds and bees talks keep your kids safer online

If you need an interpreter, please let us know via president@hazelwolfk8.org. Childcare will be provided for Hazel Wolf students.

NEW! Seattle DOT Sidewalks/Walkways Workshop, Jan. 25 9am

The Seattle Department of Transportation is holding a workshop in our neighborhood to discuss new sidewalks/walkways funded by a transportation levy. The event will begin at the school at 9am and we’ll chat, then take a walk around the neighborhood. All community members are welcome!

K-5 “Ready. Set. GLOW” Dance, Jan. 31

K-5 families, put on your dancing shoes and join us on Friday, January 31, from 6:30-8:30pm (corrected time) in the Cafetorium for the K-5 “Ready. Set. GLOW” Dance! Wear your favorite white or neon clothes and get ready to dance the night away to kid-friendly tunes!

Volunteers are needed to help make the dance a memorable experience for our students. Please consider signing up to volunteer.

TerraCycle School Recycling Drive, now through Apr. 30th

The TerraCycle School Recycling Drive continues this month. TerraCycle, a leader in recycling hard-to-recycle materials. We are collecting four categories: drink pouches & straws, squeezable pouches & caps, oral care, and air care products. See what items can be collected here. Please bring your items to the labeled recycle bins by the school entrance. Email parent volunteer Koko at estem@hazelwolfk8.org with questions.

Wolf Pack Raises $53,000 for 2024 Blue Envelope Campaign

Lost and Found

Visit the Lost and Found before Winter Break starts (December 23-January 3).

The Lost and Found, managed by parent volunteer Amber Yeaw, is located just off the front office area. Parents can access the Lost and Found anytime during office hours; please check in at the front desk. Students are encouraged to check it before or after school.

Items that have been in the Lost and Found for more than 4 weeks will be placed on the front benches on Monday mornings. Unclaimed items remaining on Saturday will be donated to Kidvantage.

Final Week of 2024 Blue Envelope Campaign

We made it to our final week of the 2024 Blue Envelope Campaign, our only major Hazel Wolf PTSA fundraiser this year. At just 35% to our goal, we need your help to get us to the finish line. The last day for your students to turn in their worksheet is December 12th. Each student who turns in their worksheet gets a small prize. Don’t forget to write the student’s name and grade on the paper. Please download the worksheet if you need another copy.

During this season of thankfulness, we appreciate the ways you show up to support and nurture our Wolf Pack. Our community is strong because of you, and we are so thankful.

Upcoming PTSA Events

Staff Appreciation Breakfast, Dec. 10th, 7:30-8:45am

Please help us celebrate our wonderful staff with a Hazel Wolf staff favorite, the hot breakfast! We will need a lot of physical volunteers the morning of Tuesday, December 10th, and a lot of people willing to bring in hot foods to offer our staff. Sign up to volunteer.

We will be decorating the library with notes and posters of thanks from the community. Feel free to send to the front office any general notes and posters for staff or individual messages if you prefer.

Ridwell School Drive, now until December 15

There’s still time to support our recycling efforts by becoming a Ridwell member. We have 4 families signed up and only need 6 more families to sign up to earn plastic film pickup in the Spring! Sign up by December 15th using this school drive link. And when 20 families join, our school earns a field trip to the Ridwell warehouse!

8th Grade Room Parent Reps Needed!

We’re still in need of 8th Grade Parent Reps to help keep communication flowing between teachers and families. Sign Up to be a Room Parent.

Ski Bus, Winter 2024-2025

We are thrilled to be able to offer our 3rd through 8th grade students the opportunity to take ski and snowboard lessons during the winter season. The Wednesdays bus is full but there is still room on the Friday bus. Learn more about Ski Bus.

How the PTSA Supports the Hazel Wolf Community

We are at the halfway mark for the 2024 Blue Envelope campaign and have raised 25% of our goal. Thank you to those who have donated.

During the 2024-2025 school year, the PTSA will continue to support four major areas of focus:

Staff Grants: Every full-time teacher at Hazel Wolf receives a PTSA Classroom Grant of $400, allowing them to enhance the learning experience of their students. The grant can be used for classroom supplies, curricula, books, software, and website or magazine subscriptions. PTSA Grants also support the Engineering, Art, Music, and Physical Education programs.
Tutoring: The PTSA provides funding for seven tutors working with students in 1st-8th grade. Tutors work with individual students and small groups. Each week we provide over 100 hours of support for our elementary and middle school students.
Outdoor Education & Field Trips: PTSA helps fund class field trips for all grades, as well as overnight trips like Nature Bridge for grades 4-8.
School & Community Events: From the Fall Harvest to Field Day to Multicultural Night and everything in between, the PTSA helps support events that help strengthen the Hazel Wolf community.
Kindergarten Jump Start: SPS recently pulled back funding from Jump Start programs around the city. PTSA will cover these costs to preserve this experience for our youngest students.

Our contribution request is $240 per student, or $20/month.

The money raised during the Blue Envelope campaign will go towards programs that the PTSA supports as approved in our 2024-2025 SY budget. Man, do we have a lot more planned for this school year!
