Dear Hazel Wolf community

As you you may have heard, Seattle Education Association (SEA) has voted to authorize a strike.

None of us want to strike. Our place is in the school and in the classrooms. Going on strike is a last resort. We have already proposed a compromise with the district on many issues and they are not budging from their unacceptable positions. Educators have no choice but to strike.

What’s at stake? It is not just educator pay! Teacher working conditions are student learning environments. So, when we bargain, we fight for a better education for our stadents. We are trying to win smaller class sizes and case loads, a more robust Special Education system, stronger supports for students, protection for our our most vulnerable and staff voice in school wide decision making. The current offers from SPS do not reflect our community’s needs.

What can you do to help? First email the school board at bit.ly/supportSEA and tell them educators need a fair contract. Second, join us on the picket line! If we do strike, we’ll be marching around Hazel Wolf starting on Wednesday, September 2nd. We’ll march each day from 9 – 3:30 until we have an acceptable contract.

Again, no one wants to strike and we do not take this action lightly. SEA members are working hard every day to get back to work and start the school year.
