2023 Direct Appeal Campaign

This year, we are thrilled that students are able to be back in their classrooms full time. So much has changed, but our commitment to providing an outstanding education for all of our children stays consistent. Our PTSA strives to create programs and provide services that enrich our children’s lives, engage our families, support our teachers, and help our community.

Why a Direct Appeal Campaign?

Historically, the PTSA hosted an annual Auction and Parent Social, where approximately 10% of Hazel Wolf families would donate more than 75% of the PTSA’s funds. We are making an important pivot towards equitability in our fundraising efforts. We have decided to hold our 3rd annual Direct Appeal Campaign, in an effort to better align with our principles and values of equity.

Our goal for the Hazel Wolf K-8 2023 Direct Appeal campaign is $75,000, which is equivalent to the proceeds of our typical auction. To reach our goal, we are asking each family to donate $125 per student (or just $10.50/month) in honor of Hazel Wolf’s 125th Birthday on March 10th.

Your donation makes a difference!

By contributing to the Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA Direct Appeal campaign, you are helping support critical programs that our community relies on, from tutoring and classroom supplies, to field trips, family support, and DEI, and much more. Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA is strongly committed to being there for all families in our school community – and we hope you are too. We are grateful for each of you who support this years’ Direct Appeal and our programs.

All donations are 100% tax deductible and qualify for corporate gift matching.

To donate, click on the “Donate Now” button above or send a check to our school (11530 12th Ave NE, Seattle, 98125) made payable to Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA .

FAQs

How much should I donate?

No amount is too small – or too big! With over 700 students, we are asking every family to give as much as they can to support the school. This year, in honor of Hazel Wolf’s 125th Birthday on March 10th, we are asking each family to donate $125 per student (or $10.50/month) to reach our goal. Please consider a contribution in any amount that is within your family’s budget. $125 per student is not feasible for all families, so we ask those who are able to donate more to help us reach our goal.

What does your support do for our students?

During the 2022-2023 school year, the PTSA will continue to support four major areas of focus:

  • Tutoring: The PTSA provides funding for seven tutors working with students in 1st-8th grade. Tutors work with individual students and small groups. They are a vital resource for students who were affected most by remote learning. Each week we provide over 100 hours of support for our elementary and middle school students.
  • Staff Grants: Every certified teacher at Hazel Wolf receives a PTSA Classroom Grant of $325, allowing them to enhance the learning experience of their students. The grant can be used for classroom supplies, curricula, books, software, and website or magazine subscriptions. PTSA Grants also support the Engineering, Art, Music, and Physical Education programs. We are hoping to begin offering innovation grants to any teacher that applies, totalling $5,000. With a $125 donation per student, we will reach that goal. Every donation helps, no amount is too small – or too big.
  • Family Support: The Family Support program helps to support our community of families by providing support in areas that aren’t traditionally funded by SPS. The PTSA helps supplement school-wide snacks. We also provide financial aid for school field trips and 5th-8th grade overnight trips, sports uniforms and shoes, band instruments, eyeglasses, and medication for students to help them meet their educational goals. The PTSA helps fund after school programs. And next year we hope to fund additional scholarships for after school care to provide more kids with a safe, reliable, supportive environment to learn and connect with their peers after school hours.
  • Racial Equity & Inclusion: Our PTSA values and prioritizes students, families and staff. Funds raised pay for translations of documents and live interpretations at PTSA events for our Multilingual families. These keep families included and informed about school events and information. We also fund items for our affinity groups (groups for Black and Brown students) to support students to feel seen, heard and validated. During the 2022-2023 school year, we will provide racial equity training for the PTSA and family Racial Equity Committee (REC) to maintain an anti-racist lens with all of programs and events.

Together we can make a difference. No donation amount is too small.
