This year, students are back in classrooms full time, but it is not typical pre-COVID school. So much has changed but our commitment to providing an outstanding education for all of our children has not. Our PTSA strives to create programs and provide services that enrich our children’s lives, engage our families, support our teachers, and help our community.

Why a Direct Appeal Campaign? In a typical pre-COVID year, the Hazel Wolf PTSA would host its annual Auction and Parent Social, where approximately 10% of Hazel Wolf families would donate more than 75% of the PTSA’s funds. As we continue to adjust how we engage our school community and do our part to keep everyone healthy, we decided to hold our 2nd Direct Appeal Campaign. Our goal for the Hazel Wolf K-8 2022 Direct Appeal campaign is $75,000, which is equivalent to the proceeds of our typical auction. We hope that 100% of Hazel Wolf families will participate in this year’s campaign.

Your donation makes a difference! By contributing to the Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA Direct Appeal campaign, you invest directly in your child. The PTSA supports programs which are above and beyond SPS provided resources. All donations are 100% tax deductible and qualify for corporate gift matching.

To donate, you may send a check to our school (11530 12th Ave NE, Seattle, 98125) made payable to Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA or just click on the “Donate Now” button above to make a donation online. Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA is strongly committed to being there for all families in our school community – and we hope you are too. We are grateful for each of you who support this year’s Direct Appeal Campaign and our programs.

How much should I donate? No amount is too small – or too big! With over 700 students, we are asking every family to give as much as they can to support the school. If every family donates $110 per student (or $9/month), we will exceed our goal. Please consider a contribution in any amount that is within your family’s budget.

What does your support do for our students? During the 2021-2022 school year, the PTSA will continue to support four major areas of focus:

Tutoring Program: The PTSA provides funding for seven tutors working with students in 1st-8th grade. Tutors work with individual students and small groups. They are a vital resource for students who were affected most by remote learning. Each week we provide over 100 hours of support for our elementary and middle school students.

Staff Grants: Every certified teacher at Hazel Wolf receives a PTSA Classroom Grant allowing them to enhance the learning experience of their students. The grant can be used for classroom supplies, curricula, books, software, and website or magazine subscriptions. PTSA Grants also support the Engineering, Art, Music, and Physical Education programs.

Family Support: The Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Fund supplements the PTSA Family Support pantry for families with high need, especially those who have tested positive for COVID. The funds are distributed by Principal Nelsen and the CARES Support Team (consisting of Hazel Wolf administrators, counselors, English Language Learner teachers, and PTSA support positions).

Racial Equity & Inclusion: The PTSA funds translations for our Multilingual Learner families. These translations are important to help keep as many families included and informed about school events. Additionally, funding this year supports updating our Land and Labor Acknowledgements to meaningfully reflect our community goals, new Black Lives Matter at Hazel Wolf student designed spirit gear, as well as additional funds for the staff Racial Equity Team (RET) and for Student Affinity Groups. During the 2022-2023 school year, we will provide racial equity training for the PTSA and family Racial Equity Committee (REC) to maintain an anti-racist lens with our programs.

Our goal is 100% participation. Every donation counts. No donation amount is too small.
